The fact that the game is not tested enough doesn't help (it is tested some, but as you can see, not enough and things slip through. Hotfixes are frequent now, which dramatically increases the chance that something breaks. The game's code is so interconnected, that when you fix a small thing in one place, you suddenly drop all of the character skills, or lose the ability to gain defeat traits, etc. Everything that gets worked on is very insignificant, but what gets broken is stuff that wrecks your campaign and sucks the enjoyment. But first, a rant: things like that are why I'm greatly sceptical of messing with the game's code to fix bugs with hotfixes. It's not a clean solution, and it's not a fix forever, but it's the only thing I could come up with and can be used (hopefully) with future instances of the problem (and it will show up with Thrones of Decay). I have a solution for your Ulrika problems.
